Fungal Spawn and Demo Logs

We provide a number of utilitarian fungal strains, grown on either wooden dowels or sawdust, and ready for fungal projects. We provide strains catering to:

  • Tree types (hardwood/softwood)
  • Tree species (eucalypts, oaks, poplars, etc.)
  • Decomposition locations (branches, trunk, roots,)
  • Decomposition stages (freshly cut, partially decomposed)
A demonstration log with mushrooms fruiting

We produce demonstration logs, pre-inoculated with gourmet mushroom strains, and available for outdoor, small-scale mushroom cultivation. No trees are felled for the purpose of producing demonstration logs. The logs are a byproduct of Bay Area tree-service work, and are upcycled for mushroom cultivation, rather than being sent to local landfills.

Consultation and On-Site Inoculation

We can provide research, planning, and consultation for projects involving saprotrophic fungal application. Consultation is available on-site and remotely. We inoculate dead and dying trees on Northern California private property. This service can:

  • Increase decomposition and remove fuel on fire-threatened land
  • Turn downed trees into a source of sustenance (and possibly income, depending on scale)
  • Build soil and sequester carbon
  • Speed the decomposition of difficult-to-remove stumps, where mechanical removal would risk damaging local gas, electric, or irrigation lines
  • Create wildlife habitat

We’re available for small jobs in the Bay Area as well as larger projects in Northern California.

Partnership Matching

We are developing a network for connecting private landowners to tree-service companies, with the aim of:

  • Reducing disposal/recycling fees and landfill space for woody materials produced by tree services
  • Providing landowners with material sources for growing fungi, building soil, and sequestering carbon

The matching network is currently under development. If you’re a producer or potential consumer of tree-service byproducts, contact us at mail@a-horizon.ventures, and we can notify you when the service goes live
